I grew up loving old westerns and as I got older I began to realize the lack of diversity. Outside of one or two token characters everyone was white and even among the white actors the ratio of men to women was comically out of proportion. Films we grow up with can carry a lot of significance and often blind us to a movies faults. However, acknowledging the weaknesses of various media is one of the only ways to ignite change in the industry. I wanted to challenge myself to break down my construct of these westerns and reimagine them with the individuals they almost always excluded.
